Juicebox Junkies is a fun choir for children aged 6-16 with Type 1 Diabetes. A community that makes children feel welcome, not embarrassed when alarms for CGMs and pumps go off. In fact, blood glucose levels will be checked half way through every rehearsal and there will always be apple juice, rockets, skittles and gummies on hand for those lows. As a mother to a recent diagnosed (Dec 2024) active 6 year old who loves to sing it inspired me to expand my Children's Choir for her to meet other children who she can feel a part of a community and understand her everyday struggles. What a better platform to raise your voice in song together, music is therapeutic and often elevates and makes us feel better.
Kids will learn Disney, Pop and Musical Theatre songs in 2-part harmony over the course of 5-weeks with a mini performance at the end and some songs will have some simple choreographed dance moves. Absolutely no singing experience necessary. Singers will learn some basics of vocal technique through music games and exercises. There are other platforms to perform at that I am looking into including Alberta Children's Hospital and with Diabetes organizations events. Juicebox Junkies starts Sunday, May 4th, 2025 at Citadel Community Association, 870 Citadel Dr, NW, Calgary. Early bird now on till April 8th at $145 (includes t-shirt) $175 after April 8th.
